I love it when a plan comes together.

I make photographs and I manage projects in between visual arts and social issues.

About

Born 23-02-1988 in The Netherlands / Lives in between two rivers in Heerewaarden / Studied Documentary Photography at HKU Utrecht from 2008 until 2010 / Graduated in Art and Economics at HKU in 2015 / Just finished a seminar at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie with Joakim Eskildsen in Berlin / Now participating in Atelier Smedsby with JH Engström and Margot Wallard in Paris / Working in between visual arts and urgent social issues as a process- and projectmanager at Academie voor Beeldvorming (in English: School of Perception) / Volunteering at the Animal Ambulance in the region of ‘s-Hertogenbosch

As a photographer, I play with creating or breaking away from feelings of comfort and safety. I’m interested in the connection and tension between people, animals and nature. These themes are strongly connected to my personal life.

I like to temporarily drop myself in certain places and groups that I sometimes compose myself. This way, I organize temporary families, ‘wolf packs’, where people have to make do with each other. In these situations, I explore ways to challenge my boundaries.

In life I always experience a tension between longing to make connections as well as a desire to operate individually. I seek how I can feel at home, at the same time I push myself beyond what I find comfortable, to trigger other parts of myself. Maybe because somewhere I yearn for an apocalypse to happen.

My artistic approach is very intuitively, a fusion of photography with different materials and editing practices. I play with combinations of images based on synchronicity or contrast, I like absurdistic atmospheres, sometimes I add writings, I use different cameras and analogue printing techniques such as riso and silkscreen printing.
